Usk Brass Band were proud to recently perform at the unveiling of the Alfred Wallace memorial statue in Twyn Square
On Saturday, November 6, Usk residents and visitors gathered to pay respect to the great Usk-born naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, co-discoverer with Charles Darwin of the theory of evolution by natural selection.
At 11.25am comedian and Strictly Come Dancing champion Bill Bailey, Patron of the Wallace Memorial Fund, accompanied Dr George Beccaloni, Director of the Wallace Correspondence Project, in formally unveiling a bronze bust of Wallace.
A great crowd turned out and the band added to the event
The band enjoyed performing at this event and it was great to see a huge crowd that turned out for the unveiling of the statue. Principal cornet Callum played 'A Fanfare for Usk' for the unveiling of the statue. This fanfare was composed many years ago by Usk MD James Jones and has since been played at every mayor's inauguration. #BillBailey #UskBrassBand
