215 Mile Trip Creates Spanish Impression
Usk Band is embarking on a journey to North Wales, to play in the Welsh Regional Qualifiers. The band is keen to build on the strong start they made in their debut year in 2013, and have been tasked with a work titled ‘Three Spanish Impressions’. This work is from the pen of Alan Fernie, the Scottish composer being no stranger to brass band repertoire. The work is in three very distinct movements, all of which are all very accessible to the listener. The build up to this contest has seen some internal changes in the band, the band has promoted rising cornet star Callum Philips on to the front row, and for this contest Zoe has moved from horn to the very important percussion parts. The band is set to depart for Llandudno on Friday 14th March and will be competing on Sunday 16th. The whole band hopes to put on a show stopping performance and hopes to bring back a pleasing result to South Wales. The expense of the trip has been enormous and the band is working hard to raise the required funds.
