Usk Brass Band’s ever popular Christmas Concert takes place at 7pm in the Memorial Hall in Usk on Saturday 14th December.
The Concert will mark a great end to a fantastic year for the Band. At the beginning of 2013, after a 25 year absence, Usk Band registered with the South East Wales Brass Band Association (SEWBBA) to compete in national and regional contests in the fourth section.
Throughout the year, Usk Band have consistently been placed in the top three at each SEWBBA contest resulting in Usk coming second in the year-end rankings and awarded the Nigel Jones Memorial Trophy as Runner’s Up Champions.
In addition, Usk Band also entered, and came second, at the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association (GBBA) Contest in Ross-on-Wye in November. What’s more, Katy Beckett, the Band’s principal cornet player, was awarded Best Instrumentalist (see the contest photos).
Usk Brass Band’s conductor, Mr Jeff Jones, said “it’s been an unbelievable return to competing for the Band and I couldn’t have hoped for a better set of results. Every player and supporter has made a fantastic effort and the achievements are well-deserved; also, the community should be very proud of their local band. We’re now working hard to make our Christmas Concert the best ever and looking forward to taking part in the Usk Winter Festival”.
In the New Year the Band will focus on the Welsh Championships taking place in Llandudno in March. Not only will the Band be perfecting the music, but also raising funds to subsidise the considerable cost of taking part in the contest. Any donations to help can be made through the Usk Band website.
Tickets for the Usk Brass Band Christmas Concert are available at the door and are priced £6 and £4 for concessions, which includes seasonal refreshments.
