Prizes for Usk
Usk Brass Band took second place at the South East Wales Brass Band Association Festival (SEWBBA) in Ebbw Vale on Saturday 18th May. It’s been a great first half of the year for Usk Brass Band. After a 25-year absence from registered contesting, Usk re-registered with SEWBBA in January in the Fourth Section. The band made their contesting rebirth at the National Championships Regional Final at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall in March and came a respectable fourth. The recent second place result at the Ebbw Vale Festival, where the Band played the test piece ‘Lindum Suite’ by Denzil Stephens, really does re-establish Usk as a contesting band. Jeff Jones, Usk’s musical director, said: “This is a great achievement for the band, to re-enter the contesting stage after such a long absence and to do so well so quickly is remarkable, and is a credit to the all players, especially considering there are so many young and relatively inexperienced members. “I’m very proud to be Usk’s conductor and I know the people of Usk, who give the band great support, will be proud too.” The band will hold their popular Summer Concert in the Memorial Hall in Usk on 13th July and will be entertaining the crowds at Usk Show in September. The band are also hoping to make a return visit to Usk’s Twin Town, Graben-Neudorf in Germany, later in the year.
